If you’ve ever splurged on a pair of Aviator Nation sweats from Pitkin County Dry Goods or a cozy, color block hoodie from Performance Ski, then you know the Venice-based brand makes the softest athleisure threads ever.
Both downtown boutiques started carrying founder and creative visionary Paige Mycoskie’s homegrown line in 2013, and this year, the California girl decided to make an even bigger splash in Aspen with a pop-up experience at the X Games to officially introduce her first-ever outerwear collection. Here, she also shared the news that Aviator Nation is opening up a sixth flagship store here (308 S. Mill St.) in June—the first location outside of her home state—where Mycoskie started the now-global company in her garage in 2006.
“We decided to do the X Games, because not only is Aspen one of my favorite towns in all the world, but I also love the energy the event brings to the mountains of Colorado in celebrating skiing and snowboarding culture,” says Mycoskie. “I’ve wanted to have a store in Aspen since I started my company, because I have a deep love for this community and the outdoors are SUCH a huge part of our brand DNA. It all feels very serendipitous how everything happened at the same time.”
An avid snowboarder and frequent Aspen visitor, she’s had an outerwear collection in the works for over two years, so signing a lease and hitting the X Games in the same week was a major worlds collide moment for Mycoskie. Like the rest of its ’70s surf culture-inspired pieces, Aviator Nation’s new “Trekker Hooded Puffer Jackets” ($649) are handmade in downtown Los Angeles and were designed to look both retro and modern and to rock on-mountain or off. The team in the tent also introduced its new surfboards and an exclusive Mountain Patch Trucker Hat ($44.99), which all X Games athletes and musicians got in their swag bags (jealous!). A line of matching mittens is still in the works and we can’t wait to see what else this cool crew will unveil when Aviator Nation takes over The Sports Center space come summer.
Pro tip: Pre-order your puffer now because like most Aviator Nation collections, it will sell out super-fast (estimated shipment date is February 14) see all three available styles here!
