Wearing checkered Vans, rainbow leggings and a vintage t-shirt top, Paige Mycoskie, founder of the California lifestyle brand Aviator Nation, is busy finishing painting a mural inside the brand’s new shop at 1325 South Congress.

70’s inspired California clothing brand Aviator Nation opened in Austin this Thursday. Each piece comes handmade with signature colors yellow, orange and red, altogether inspired by owner Paige Mycoskie’s old school obsessions.

I use my commute to take mental inventory and set goals for things I want to get done that day. During the drive to work, I think about the day ahead - and I always listen to classical muisc. I find classical music engergizing, and it opens my mind.

The Trekker Hooded Puffer is what happens when a California-based surf brand designs a jacket. Bold color blocking, oversized brass zippers, and a retro-inspired chest patch give it an eye-catching look. 

Aviator Nation, a sporty/retro clothing line with roots in both surfing and skiing, matriculates not from Brooklyn, but from its West Coast sister, Venice Beach. The brand’s signature motif of bold, bright stripes decorates the store both inside and out.

We sat down with the founder of Aviator Nation last month to talk about the company’s recent extension from ’70s-inspired hoodies and sweatpants into activewear, outerwear, swimwear and surfboards.
